As much as I struggled with the concept of hope in the early stages of this project, the more clear it became to me what a privilege it is. To have the place, the time and the safety to consider such things.
My one figure looking to the left, their hand open, asking: “Where do I have to look for hope?”
The other figure facing the right, eyes closed and comfortable: “If you find it, wake me up ok?”.
But where do you look for hope, when there is no one to turn to? When the world around you has failed you and stripped you of all basic comfort?
Do you look inside? To your heart that once knew love? Do you look up, to the sky or beyond, waiting for…?
What is hope worth, without the people around us that reflect it?
It was an immense honour to be able to construct and share with you, these thoughts that occupy me while I paint. Thank you for being with me on this journey.
