After contemplating the sense of rhythm in my art practice, the thought about direction came up almost inevitably. Where to go? What to reach? A straight line ahead, or venturing out and coming back to home base? A long trip or short, spontaneous ones?
I’m one of those people who walk into a store and walk out with no sense of the direction I came from or where I need to go next. I’ve told people who asked me directions in the town I was born in that I didn’t live here because I will send you somewhere entirely else, sorry. I get lost all the time.
Having a sense of direction – especially metaphorically speaking – is a quality we learned to admire. We associate it with ambition, determination, will power and ultimately succes in life. Your eye on the ball, so to speak.
Those of us who feel the overwhelming urge to skippy ball from one interest to the next, to the other one, oh look that also looks fun and wait that too!…tend to feel under appreciated. But fear not, there is room for you and your delightful brain that holds passion and interest for a million things! Like little breadcrumbs, they too form a direction.
I very much enjoyed the merry-go-round of different styles and materials in the portraits I did last month. It gives me energy that I need for longer projects. I would like to explore this idea of direction because I still hold a lot of negative feelings towards it. Perhaps I can frame it to something that is kinder to myself.

I will also be doing a workshop this month, on using Chromamagic to improve your art. I put it all in the calendar for you to see. I hope to talk to all of you lots again this month!
