Colors of Snow

Today I finished this long overdue painting of GOT’s Jon Snow. I want to try something new and post the color palette I used. When I started out painting with color I had so many problems converting to values. Everything was off. And I had no idea why. I have a black and white mind; I ‘see’ things in values. Colors confuse the hell out of me. It really helped me to see what palettes other people used and with a lot of practice, I can now see progress in my colored works.

I painted this in Photoshop, starting out directly on a dark canvas using the bottom right color. It’s very important to your values to paint on the background color you’re going with. Here is the color palette; you can save it and color drop in whatever painting software you’re using.

  1. I find this painting wonderful, of extraordinary elegance and terrific palette. Getting such desaturated colors would be difficult and courageous for me, as I see it. I therefore believe that it depends on one’s own nature and experience. I personally prefer a world in black and white and halftones, rather than a pop world, but I can’t always let what I paint speak “softly” … Thanks Sabra, for the generosity with which you share words and artworks …
