How to paint a non-consensual smile

The kid and I were on a trip. I don’t do phone photos so I pushed my over-sized lens in his face. He grimaced. “Look normal!”, I said.

“No.”

“Please?”

“No mum!”

I twist my face behind the camera into a weird expression. It doesn’t take much. He smiled and that was that. A non-consensual smile from a boy well educated on the topics of boundaries, consent and the darker sides of human relationships. Irony? Not so much. Maybe spend less time plastering your ugly car with “Your body, my choice” bumper stickers so you can see the difference.

Painting time is 2 hours. I used Ivory Black, Raw Umber, Transparent Red Iron Oxide and Titanium White.
